ABS & Stability Enhancement Systems

Introduction

You can count on Meritor WABCO anti-lock braking and stability enhancement systems to bring your operation an added measure of safety and control.

We've supplied more ABS to the North American truck and trailer market than any other manufacturer. And, we were the first to pioneer stability systems for commercial vehicles.

With the longest proven track record, it’s no wonder more fleets and end-users are looking to Meritor WABCO to help keep their vehicles on the road.

Electronic Braking Systems (EBS)

Electronic Braking Systems (EBS)

Meritor WABCO EBS integrates anti-lock braking system technology, automatic traction control, and other key vehicle control system features to deliver the next generation of braking control.

EBS utilizes electronic vehicle control for the braking system. An electronic signal replaces the air signal sent by the brake pedal to activate the brakes, improving stopping distances and braking system performance.

Features & Benefits
Enhanced diagnostics of the braking system for improved serviceability.
Advanced software detects brake fade and notifies the driver if wear levels become critical.
Quicker reaction time provides shorter stopping distances.
Innovative software provides improved vehicle stability and driver control.
Brake pedal “feel” similar to that of a passenger car improving driver comfort.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

When it’s needed, ESC combines RSC rollover protection with directional stability providing added jackknife prevention, as well as spinout and driftout control.

Rapid lane changes and cornering on slippery surfaces can trigger spinout, often before the driver is aware. ESC’s lateral accelerometer, steer angle sensor, and yaw rate sensor enhance driver control for oversteering and understeering conditions. Brakes are applied selectively to individual wheels on the front and rear axles, as well as the trailer axles, to bring the vehicle back to its intended direction.

Features & Benefits
Maintains stability and enhances performance during non-braking maneuvers.
Additional yaw (rotational) sensing over RSC system for fleets/vehicle types that need additional stability control.
Integration is available across a variety of vehicle configurations with different engines, transmissions, suspensions, and wheelbases.
Automatically intervening to reduce the risk of the vehicle rotating while in a curve or taking an evasive action.
Prevents a jack-knife and drift out condition through select braking of the tractor and trailer brakes.

Pneumatic ABS

Pneumatic ABS

Meritor WABCO offers a complete range of system configurations to accommodate a wide variety of vehicle specifications. We provide the right fit for your operation depending on vehicle application, number of axles, and type of suspension system. In addition, each ABS configuration is available with Automatic Traction Control (ATC) for improved spin-out protection and maximum tractive effort.

Features & Benefits
System provides improved vehicle control under extreme road conditions.
Proven technology provides reduced downtime and maximum cargo protection.
With almost four million systems sold, operators and technicians benefit from industry familiarity and parts availability.
Simple diagnostics provide three options: PC-based TOOLBOX™ software, standard blink code or Pro-Link® 9000.
High sensor signal strength protects against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.
Front ABS valve package combines ABS modulator valves with quick release valve functions.
Rear ABS valve package with optional ATC requires less maintenance than competitive systems.

Series

4S/4M    4-sensor/4-modulator. Standard for most air-brake trucks and tractors.
6S/4M    6-sensor/4-modulator. High performance
6S/6M    6-sensor/6-modulator. Highest performance system available.

Roll Stability Control (RSC)

Roll Stability Control (RSC)

Keeping your vehicle up and running is central to your business’ success. Costs related to rollover accidents – downtime, vehicle repairs, and administrative expenses – can add up to more than just lost business. Roll Stability Control (RSC), designed specifically for your truck or tractor, helps maintain vehicle stability and aids in reducing tractor-trailer rollovers.

Roll Stability Control (RSC) is an active vehicle safety system that automatically intervenes if a high rollover risk is detected while driving. If a rollover threat is occurring, the system intervenes and tries to minimize the rollover risk by automatically reducing vehicle speed.

Features & Benefits
Helps fleets realize improved performance and lower operating costs by keeping vehicles on the road.
Fewer components offer ease of maintenance.
RSC continually checks and updates the vehicle’s center of gravity and rollover threshold to intervene when necessary.
Activation frequently takes place before the driver is aware of the need.
